Printing companies in several Western Michigan counties will be required to meet the new rules for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) air pollution control that became effective on April 18, 2023. The rules were required because several areas in Detroit and Western Michigan failed to achieve compliance with health-based pollution standards for ozone that were set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) called National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Specifically, Berrien County and parts of Allegan and Muskegon counties did not meet necessary standards. The good news is that the Detroit area was able to come back into compliance with the ozone NAAQS.
