As part of its comprehensive federal advocacy program, PRINTING United Alliance joined Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition (TWC). Coalitions are one of the ways that the Alliance can support legislation that benefits the printing industry by joining with other industries with common goals to speak with one, stronger, voice. With more than 650 organizations in the TWC, the Alliance can have an impact that benefits the printing industry.

On September 30, 2023, the state of California enacted Senate Bill (SB) 553, the nation’s first general industry workplace violence safety requirements program. Under SB553, almost all employers will be required to establish, implement, and maintain a workplace violence prevention program (WVPP) as part of their Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) that meets the requirements by the law’s effective date of July 1, 2024.

PRINTING United Alliance participated in a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Small Business Advocacy Review Panel as a Small Entity Representative on September 14, 2023 to provide advice and recommendations to the Panel regarding the upcoming proposed regulations for C.I. Pigment Violet 29 (PV29). The regulations are the second of two steps that will be designed to protect employees from the hazards associated with exposure to PV29.

In a decision issued on August 25, 2023, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) established a new procedure that affects how a company must respond to union organizing. In Cemex Construction Materials Pacific, the NLRB stated that if a union claims to have at least a 50% +1 majority of the employees supporting unionization, the employer must either grant “voluntary” recognition without an NLRB election, or it must file its own NLRB petition seeking an election. If the company does neither of these things, it risks having the union file an unfair labor practices action against it.
