Congress Aims to Strengthen U.S. Supply Chain and Crack Down on China’s Maritime Influence
U.S. and China relations have grown increasingly tense over various issues, including maritime shipping. In an effort to curtail China’s growing maritime influence, U.S. Representatives Dusty Johnson (R-SD) and John Garamendi (D-CA) introduced the Ocean Shipping Reform Implementation Act of 2023 (H.R. 1836) to bolster the 2022 Ocean Shipping Reform Act. And Just Like That, the NLRB Changes the Independent Contractor Standard
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) recently changed the legal standard to decide whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor (IC). On June 13, 2023, the NLRB issued a decision, The Atlanta Opera, Inc. that reverts the IC analysis to a prior standard. The standard has changed several times and may change again in August when the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issues a revised IC rule.Full story -
