On October 7, 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law two core bills of the state’s Climate Accountability Package, SB 253 and SB 261. This occurred the same day Governor Newsom also signed the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosure Act (VCMDA). As they currently stand, both laws will impose extensive climate-related disclosure obligations for U.S. based public and private companies that do business in California.
