There is good news to share that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced that there will not be a price increase in January 2025 for Market Dominant products, which includes Periodicals, Marketing Mail, First-Class Mail, and Package Services. In the September 20, 2024, announcement, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy highlighted that the USPS operational strategies are improving service reliability and efficiency, with projected inflation on the decline.

On September 19, the Accelerating a Circular Economy for Plastics and Recycling Innovation Act of 2024 (H.R. 9676) was introduced in the House by Representatives Larry Bucshon (R-IN-8) and Don Davis (D-NC-1). The bipartisan legislation seeks to tackle plastic pollution and improve the sustainability of plastic packaging materials by modernizing the nation’s fragmented recycling infrastructure and increasing the use of recycled material.

The No Industrial Restrictions in Secret Act (No IRIS Act) of 2024 (H.R. 7284 / S. 3724) was introduced in Congress to protect American manufacturers’ ability to compete and innovate by ensuring that federal regulations are based on sound science. The No IRIS Act would prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from utilizing data from its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) to impose regulations on the chemical and other manufacturing sectors without Congressional approval. The bill would protect American jobs, promote innovation, and hold the EPA accountable on their stated commitment to scientific integrity.

WASHINGTON − U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO), alongside the Department of Defense (DOD), has won a 2024 Service to the Citizen Award for making it easier for active, retired, and disabled Uniformed Service members and their families to renew their ID cards. GPO, the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), and representatives from across the Uniformed Services partnered together to develop a way for members to renew their Uniformed Services ID (USID) cards entirely online for the first time ever.

On September 13, PRINTING United Alliance, in partnership with the News/Media Alliance, sent a cross-industry coalition letter to the International Trade Commission (ITC) urging the commissioners to reject antidumping (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD) on imports of aluminum lithographic printing plates from China and Japan. The duties were preliminarily imposed earlier this year at an excessive rate of 200% (China) and 87% (Japan). Because there is no U.S. supplier of the highly technical lithographic aluminum sheet product that is necessary to make the printing plates, they must be imported.
