House Passes the Ocean Shipping Reform Implementation Act

On March 21, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 393-24 to approve the Ocean Shipping Reform Implementation Act of 2023, which was introduced in March 2023 by Reps. John Garamendi (D-CA-08) and Dusty Johnson (R-SD-At Large). The bill’s primary focus is to address the influence of the Chinese government on the U.S. shipping industry. -

SEC Issues Final Climate Related Disclosures Rule

Nearly two years after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed rules that would require publicly traded companies to provide climate-related disclosures, the agency issued its final rule on March 6, 2024. With a 3-2 vote, the SEC passed a pared down version of what was initially proposed in 2022. The final rule is an extension of the 2010 guidance that the agency published which outlined how their existing rules may require climate-related disclosures. -

GPO Deputy Director Becomes First Woman to Lead Bureau of Engraving and Printing

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Deputy Director Patty Collins has been named the 27th Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen. Collins is the first woman to hold the position in BEP’s 162-year history. Collins leaves GPO after nearly four years serving as the Agency’s second-in-command. She led GPO’s Plant Operations, Security and Intelligent Documents, Official Journals of Government and Customer Services business units. In this role, Collins oversaw the production of the U.S. passport, materials for Congress, the White House, and Federal Agencies. GPO Chief of Staff Steve LeBlanc will serve as GPO Acting Deputy Director. -
