Summary:

It is proposed that the locus of most saturated colors at all lightness levels can be used for comparing the color reproduction capabilities of different ink sets. Different ink set envelopes can be compared by examining the color perimeters at corresponding lightness levels. Color perimeters were theoretically determined by (1) estimating dot size by means of the Murray-Davies equation and (2) using these estimated dot sizes in the Neugebauer equations. The validity of these equations to produce color perimeters was tested empirically for three ink sets and found to be quite good.
