Summary:

The paper discusses briefly the make-up of the Cutler-Hammer D-Mist ink mist suppression system. The system maintains a high voltage on a wire positioned near an outgoing nip. The wire gives off corona which ionizes the ink mist. Like signs of the mist and wire cause the mist to be driven back to the rolls. Photographs showing the action are included. Some design challenges are discussed. Wire breakage, pigment and vehicle separation of colored inks, newsblack electrical characteristics, and suppression efficiency measurement are discussed.
