Summary:

The removal of ink from rollers depends upon two factors, the degree to which the ink has been transferred to the solvent at equilibrium in a static system, and the rate at which the equilibrium is approached. Kerosene and similar solvents are deficient in both respects. Amide condensate additives have been developed that allow the wash system to pass smoothly over the critical moment when the ink carrying oils are removed from the rolls.
