Pages: 11

Summary:

Management information systems in the printing industry always contain copious data on financial matters, on machine output and on human productivity, but very few systems include any information on the quality of production. This paper presents a simple method of turning print quality into numbers which can be used for management and control purposes. The techniques used to not require any specialized statistical knowledge, and can be applied without any capital outlays for testing equipment. The Canadian Government has used the method, both in their own printing production and also in their purchasing of publications printing, over a period of about three years. The paper gives the results of their experiences.
