Summary:

In order to speed mail handling, the United States Postal Service has introduced the use of bar codes printed on envelopes as part of its program of automatic sorting of business mail. For proper system performance, the imprinted envelope bar code must comply with specified printing guidelines. The Envelope Reflectance Meter was especially designed to measure the quality of the printed code array. Because of the specific technical requirements, the Meter is unique in design and performance. The ERM can be applied to other similar quality control situations.
