A General Teleproofing System

Summary:

Manual preparation and transporting of the proofs from the repro house to the client is currently a costly and time consuming task. To avoid this problem most CEPS manufacturers offer teleproofing options to their systems. However teleproofing systems on the market are either limited to the equipment of only one CEPS manufacturer or resort to video resolution. The system constructed in this project is more general because it digitizes the analog monitor image of an arbitrary CEPS-manufacturer in full resolution. The image is transferred through the public 64 Kbit/s ISDN network to the workstation of the client. Because the digitizer is programmable, the system can be interfaced to all significant CEPS systems. The prototype is based upon standard AT-compatible computers equipped with telecommunication cards under X.21 protocol. By using 6 fold compression a 1024 line colour monitor image is transmitted in 50 seconds. The communication protocol developed grants errorless transmission.
