The Accelerating Pace of Computer-to-Plate

Details:

Year: 1982
Pages: 18

Summary:

Computer-to-plate is the final step in the technology revolutionizing the prepress area of newspaper production. Recent developments at EOCOM have made possible not only the direct interface of digital imaging systems to phototypesetters, but the elimination of the phototypesetter by means of an intelligent interface called RIP (raster image processor). The capabilities of laser platemaking systems driven by highspeed RIP-type processors could bring computer-to-plate (or computer-to-film) systems to production reality years earlier than anticipated.
