Synergism Between Typesetting Systems and Office Automation Systems.

Word processing is now concerned with both content and form. Ultimately, the difference between office automation systems and typesetting systems will disappear. Predictions made include: the use of typesetter front end systems to drive devices other than typesetters, the production of full pages and fully imposed film by new devices, the production of both text and photos by image printer generators, the obsolescence of typesetters and color scanners, the refinement of laser systems to control the laser beam with the same degree of flexibility as a CRT, and the ultimate replacement of full page generators by platemakers.
