Summary:

The technology of electronic digitization of color images has presented the possibilities of alteration and arrangement of complex images without separate physical operations. Potentially, the entire prepress scope of operations from copy preparation and color separation to press-ready image carrier could be handled in one streamlined system. A few companies have entered this field in the last two or three years. Sci-Tex Corporation has developed an adaptable, comprehensive system for this purpose known as the RESPONSE 300. The Response 300 consists of three subsystems, each controlled by similar computer hardware, but optimized each for a different phase of processing: input (scanning), image processing, and output (film exposure). The Response 300 consists of three subsystems, each controlled by similar computer hardware, but optimized each for a different phase of processing: input (scanning), image processing, and output (film exposure). All available software is provided in one program, with adaptations of the output section only for conventional and direct engraving gravure. Useful modifications in software based on user feedback are incorporated into new versions issued to all users, as part of Sci-Tex policy.
