XCMYK Expanded Gamut
Introducing XCMYK: 4-Color Extended Gamut Printing
A GRACoL® Working Group Innovation
XCMYK is a 4-color extended gamut printing method that delivers a significantly wider color range than traditional CMYK—without requiring additional inks. Developed through a major research initiative by the GRACoL Working Group, XCMYK is ideal for both offset and digital presses capable of supporting its enhanced color space.
What Is XCMYK?
- A 4-color offset/digital printing method
- A standardized dataset
- An ICC profile set
What Makes XCMYK Unique?
Unlike standard CMYK printing, XCMYK profiles allow for brighter, more saturated color reproduction. If your digital press has a native gamut equal to or greater than XCMYK, it can simulate XCMYK output using ICC profiles—no hardware changes needed.
- Wider gamut than GRACoL
- Designed for use on traditional 4-color presses and digital devices
- Ideal for devices with large native gamuts
- Profiles integrate directly into front ends for presses and proofers
Note: XCMYK is not a replacement for GRACoL—it’s an alternative colorspace.
