TechnologyCutStar Next Generation
CutStar Next Generation is an integrated roll-to-sheet feeder for the Heidelberg Speedmaster press lines in the 29-, 40-, and 41-inch formats and has two main components: the Reel Stand and the Sheeting unit. The stationary Reel Stand integrates the clamping brackets with the brake motor and mandrels for receiving the rolls, including the sheet de-curler, anti-static device, and the paper storage unit with dancer rollers, as well as the control panel. The second function group is the Sheeting unit which includes the web infeed with infeed rollers installed in front of the rotating slitter shaft. The rotating knife is followed by the shingling unit for the sheetfed press with subsequent stop rollers. The sheet is transported from the cutting unit and transferred to the feeder by suction and transport tapes, and the connection to the machine feeder is ensured via a swivel-type feed table.
CutStar Next Generation is a flexible device, meaning within minutes you can convert back to running sheeted material virtually with the push of a button. The Sheeting unit quickly slides toward the drive side of the press which changes from roll-fed to sheet-fed in approximately five minutes. When CutStar is disengaged and slid to the drive side, the material thickness of the XL 106 can run 40-pt board. With CutStar engaged it is still possible to print on materials as thin as 57-micron films. The economic advantages are very compelling when you consider the paper savings from rolls to sheets, variable cutoff lengths, less feeder tripsoffs and improved running speeds. The typical payback period is approximately two years.
