John is owner and principal of Compton & Associates, a consulting company dedicated to improving the people, processes, and profits of its clients. He is professor emeritus of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he taught quality systems and process improvement while serving as director of the Center for Quality and Productivity in the Graphic Arts. Most recently he served as vice president of quality and training at Vertis Communications, and prior to that, he served as vice president of quality and organizational development at Fort Dearborn Company. John has authored and co-authored several books dealing with quality and productivity in the printing and imaging industry. He is a Master Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt and a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). He has served as the conference consultant for the annual Continuous Improvement Conference since 2010.
Kevin Cooper is a professor in the Graphic Communication Department at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), where he instructs on strategic management and other business issues related to the printing industry. A former executive with both R.R. Donnelley and Microsoft, Kevin spent nearly 20 years in the printing industry before returning to Cal Poly (his alma mater) in 2000. In addition to his role as professor, he engages in consulting activities focused on Lean manufacturing implementations, as well as teaching workshops on the subject. Kevin authored the book Lean Printing: Cultural Imperatives to Success and co-authored the books Lean Printing: Pathways to Success and Setup Reduction for Printers. Kevin has co-authored four online classes on Lean manufacturing for PIA's iLearning Center.
Malcolm G. Keif is a professor and researcher in the Graphic Communication Department at Cal Poly State University (better known as Cal Poly), one of America's leading universities for print and packaging. Malcolm oversees instruction in flexographic plating and press operations at Cal Poly, as well as teaches Quality Management, Printed Electronics, Cost Estimating, Packaging Workflow and Lean Management. He also serves as the graduate coordinator for the Printed Electronics and Functional Imaging Master's degree at Cal Poly. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and contributor to numerous industry publications. He is the co-author of the books Lean Printing: Pathways to Success and Setup Reduction for Printers: A Practical Guide to Reducing Makeready Time in Print Manufacturing, and author of Designer's Postpress Companion. He was named Educator of the Year (2004) by the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation.
