Archived SGIA Webinar: In the world of graphic advertising, understanding the surface you are installing graphics to can be the difference between a satisfied client and the cost of a reprint and reinstall. Graphics with adhesives that are too low-tack may fall off. Graphics with overaggressive adhesives may damage the surface, leading to costly repairs. So what to do? Better understand the application surface. This presentation explores the variables associated with painted surfaces such as plywood, drywall, and cinderblock, to name a few; taking into account aspects such as the brand of paint, the paint type (acrylic, latex, and oil-based), the sheen (flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss), the paint thickness, interior or exterior, low or no VOC, paint and primer in one, and colors, then endeavors to understand: When a paint is sufficiently cured to apply graphics and the difference between cured and dried, when a paint requires a more aggressive adhesive, even for a removable application, and test methods for paint curing timelines.
