Printing Industries of America has developed the Improvement Professional in Print (IPP) certification program to validate the expertise of printing industry professionals who help companies achieve operational excellence by using the concepts of Lean Manufacturing and other management and quality systems. To be eligible for the Improvement Professional in Print certification program, you must have at least two years of experience working for a printing services company and must be able to cite at least one specific example of how you have implemented improvement in your organization.
The Certification Exam
The exam is delivered online and consists of 100 multiple choice questions on a spectrum of quality related topics around lean manufacturing, process improvement, and quality management. To help you determine if you're ready to take the examination, you should first register to take the 25-question pre-test. This pre-test contains a sampling of questions that are similar in format and content to the actual exam questions. If you pass the pre-test with a score of over 20 correct answers, and you have studied the concepts of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other quality improvement systems, you may be ready to sit for the certification exam without additional study. The best way to prepare for the exam is to study the Improvement Professional in Print Body of Knowledge (IPP BOK). The IPP BOK includes seven self-paced online classes delivered by industry experts John Compton, Dr. Malcolm Keif and Dr. Kevin Cooper. It also includes three books, Lean Printing: Pathway to Success, Lean Printing: Cultural Imperatives for Success, and Setup Reduction for Printers. You can purchase the IPP Certification Bundle, including the complete Body of Knowledge plus access to the certification exam, here.
