Job Summary

Directs, plans, assigns, and monitors production department operations and activities. Determines priorities for department operations in conjunction with production schedule. Responsible for the implementation of all policies, practices, and procedures pertaining to production personnel. Supervises and coordinates the activities of production worker by performing the following duties personally or through assistant personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects screen printed or digital imaged products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of equipment.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates labor hours required to complete printing jobs.
  • Interprets and enforces company policies and safety regulations.
  • Prepares departmental budget and monitors expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Interprets printing specifications, blueprints, and job orders and assigns to production personnel.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Inspects, and approves press set-ups. Continually monitors press operations including color reproduction, registration, and print quality.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and print quality.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of supervisory and non-supervisory personnel. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assisting, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business or Production Management from four-year college or university; or three to five years of screen printing and/or digital imaging production management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong skills in work planning, scheduling, and must have good judgment of color, design, and printing quality.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions of practical situations to printing jobs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
