Equipment Sales Manager

Job Summary

Manages equipment sales activities of a screen printing and/or graphic imaging company to maximize profits, achieve greatest penetration of existing markets, and retain company's customers by performing the following duties personally or through assistant sales personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs sales and service programs to promote new markets, improve competitive position in area, and provide fast and efficient customer service.
  • Prepares department budget and monitors expenditures of budgeted funds.
  • Advises customer on types of equipment to purchase, considering such factors as costs, space availability, and intended use.
  • Recruits, selects, orients, and trains internal and external sales personnel.
  • Forecasts and develops annual equipment sales plan, and sets goals for regional or field sales personnel.
  • Coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories for sales personnel.
  • Analyzes sales statistics to formulate policy and to assist with market planning.
  • Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, volume potential, and price schedules, and develops sales action plans to accommodate goals of company.
  • Represents company at trade association meetings to promote product.
  • Coordinates liaison between sales department and other departments within company.
  • Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume and potential sales.
  • Reviews articles in trade publications to keep abreast of technological developments in equipment, sales, and service.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall direction, coordinating, and evaluation of supervisory and non-supervisory sales personnel. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policy, procedures, safety, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assisting, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipline employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Marketing with concentration in sales and marketing from four-year college or university; or three to five years screen printing and/or digital imaging equipment sales experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Strong skills in work planning, scheduling, and must have good judgment of color, design, and printing quality.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to printing jobs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
