Job Summary

Responsible for cutting raw material and/or trimming printed stock to customer specifications on powered guillotine cutter. Performs cutting operation to close tolerances, sets backstop, clamp pressure, keeps cutter square, and changes cutter blades by performing the following duties personally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checks material to be trimmed against production order for accuracy.
  • Determines whether trimming is necessary prior to final cutting.
  • Determines lift size (number of sheets) per cut to maintain tolerance ranges within precise limitations.
  • Performs cutting operations to close tolerances, sets back stop, clamp pressure, keeps cutter square, changes blade, and checks with supervisor for approval before cutting job.
  • Blocks, stacks, feeds, cuts, retrieves, and re-stacks sheets.
  • Maintains production records as required.
  • Records cutting waste. Measures or weighs as necessary, and dispose of material as indicated.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on cutter, trimmer, and other equipment.
  • Inspect machine guards for safety compliance.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED): or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
