Job Summary

Applies principles of cost accounting to compile production or sales cost reports. Calculates relationship of sales revenues to cost and overhead expenditures. Calculates labor, material, and time costs, and prepares reports showing total costs, selling prices, or profits according to approved accounting policies and procedures by performing the following duties personally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, studies, and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
  • Develops, monitors, and initiates cost accounting system.
  • Maintains production unit and time records throughout the fiscal year.
  • Maintains materials cost account.
  • Maintains and analyzes scrap and spoilage records.
  • Receive job time sheets and convert to standard cost values.
  • Analyzes operational, manufacturing, and/or material changes to determine effects on costs.
  • Prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Records cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
  • Analyzes audits of costs and prepares reports.
  • Compiles cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree (A.A.) in accounting from two year college or trade school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
