Conference Room Design Issues

Conference rooms require a lighting system which is responsive to a variety of situations. At least two different types of lighting should be planned: an ambient system that provides general lighting for meetings and a supplementary system with “downlighting” for slide projection and similar low light level conditions. The ambient lighting should be primarily diffused lighting to avoid harsh shadows on the faces of meeting participants. The vertical illuminance on the walls is also important and should be considered where presentation materials may be located on the walls. The controls for the room should allow for dimming to increase the flexibility of the lighting system. If downlights are used, they should be carefully located to avoid glare on the glossy materials often used in meetings.
