Building Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary

Maintains interior and exterior of building, and repairs heating, ventilating, industrial air conditioning, hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, fire protection, gas, water, and waste systems by performing the following duties personally or through assistant personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing facility heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing air compressor, gas, water, and waste systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing security and fire protection systems.
  • Responsible for building interior and exterior maintenance and repairs.
  • Responsible for painting and performing structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings.
  • Completes a daily, weekly, or monthly inspection reports and logs.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Maintains time and maintenance records as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one to three years building maintenance or related heating, ventilation, and air conditioning experience and/or trade school training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general trade periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, maintenance and repair correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, contractors, service personnel, and employees.

Mathmatical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals, and heat, and occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Some independent travel may be required.
