An Introduction to Standards

The primary roles of standards are to measure, count and evaluate. Measuring and accounting have proven useful for telling humans when to plant seeds and harvest crops, determining how much of something they have or are acquiring, defining the boundaries of real estate that is theirs from that of their neighbors. Measuring and accounting requires “yard stick” standards upon which people agree and use consistently  — and the printing industry is no exception.
