The following is a Q&A with Glen Ahearn, Manager, Sales Engineering, MVC Group at Teledyne.
Please provide a brief overview of Teledyne and its core mission
Teledyne® Vision Solutions is part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, a global technology company founded in 1960. Teledyne provides advanced technologies for high-reliability markets, including factory automation, aerospace and defense, environmental monitoring, electronics, ocean research, medical imaging, and pharmaceuticals.
Teledyne Vision Solutions develops imaging components and subsystems for industrial machine vision and scientific markets, including line scan and area scan cameras, frame grabbers, 3D vision, infrared and X-ray imaging, software, and AI tools. It serves customers across industrial automation, electronics, food and packaging, logistics, metrology, life sciences, geospatial, automotive, and related markets.
How is Teledyne helping printers identify defects, improve color consistency, and reduce waste in today's production environments?
Teledyne Vision Solutions helps printers move from sample-based checks to high-speed, inline inspection. Line scan imaging can inspect continuous webs or sheets in real time, helping detect color deviations, ink smudges, missing characters, barcode issues, registration errors, substrate defects, tears, and wrinkles. Our cameras, integrated line scan modules, frame grabbers, and software help printers catch defects earlier, improve quality, and reduce scrap.
Are there any upcoming developments or technologies that your clients can look forward to?
Customers can expect continued development in high-speed line scan imaging, integrated Contact Image Sensor (CIS) modules, AI-enabled inspection software, and advanced 3D vision. For print and web inspection, solutions such as the AxCIS®, Linea® and Linea HS line scan cameras (available in color and multispectral), frame grabbers, and Sherlock® software support faster inspection, simpler integration, and more automated production.
Why did Teledyne decide to join the Alliance? What resources do you plan to or have already utilized through your membership (research, iLEARNING+ courses/certifications, webinars)?
Teledyne Vision Solutions joined the Alliance to stay connected to the print community and better understand the challenges printers face. We plan to use Alliance resources such as industry research, webinars, learning programs, and member networking to stay aligned with market needs and share practical imaging expertise.
What are you most looking forward to about attending this year’s PRINTING United Expo?
We are looking forward to meeting printers, converters, OEMs, and partners at PRINTING United Expo. The event is a strong opportunity to discuss real inspection challenges, demonstrate how Teledyne Vision Solutions supports print and web applications, and learn where the industry is heading next.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the Alliance community?
As print operations become faster and more automated, reliable imaging will play a larger role in protecting quality and reducing waste. We welcome conversations with Alliance members exploring machine vision for print, packaging, and web inspection.
