GPO Makes Congressionally Mandated Reports Available to the Public Ahead of Schedule

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has made Congressionally Mandated Reports available to the public on GPO’s GovInfo. GPO fulfilled this responsibility ahead of its one-year implementation deadline set by Congress. Reports are now published and available for the public to access at https://www.govinfo.gov/app/collection/CMR. This marks the first time Congressionally Mandated Reports have been accessible to the public in a single location.

“This is a hugely important initiative and has been a long-time coming,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “Part of GPO’s brand is repeatedly meeting deadlines for Congress and our Federal agency customers. Shortly after enactment of the Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports Act, GPO started its implementation of the law’s requirements, and we are proud to have made these reports available ahead of our statutory deadline. The launch of this project represents another way GPO is fulfilling its vision of an America Informed.”

Thus far, 128 reports have been published, and 88 accounts have been registered with GPO from 53 agencies. The first agencies that submitted reports:

1. Coast Guard
2. Department of Agriculture
3. Department of Health and Human Services
4. Department of Veterans Affairs
5. Federal Election Commission
6. Federal Trade Commission
7. Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board
8. Railroad Retirement Board
9. Securities and Exchange Commission

GPO expects the collection to grow as Federal agencies become more familiar with the law’s requirements. Reports are available on a variety of topics, including but not limited to Veterans’ medical care, health care coverage and access, marine and coastal resources, land use and conservation, and small business. Members of the public are able to browse the reports by agency or topic and may download a searchable table of the reports available in either CSV or JSON formats.
