On May 25, 2023, the Supreme Court of the United States decided Sackett v. EPA, No. 21-454, and issued its ruling narrowing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to regulate the nation’s wetlands and waterways. The ruling ended a 15-year battle in favor of Michael and Chantell Sackett, who wanted to build a house on an empty lot near a large lake and wanted to fill in some wetland areas.
