EPA’s New PFAS Rule Triggers Reporting Requirements for Printers and Suppliers
On October 20, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a rule that modified reporting requirements for per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances under the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). PFAS are widely used in a variety of products and chemical mixtures, including those found in the printing industry. However, they are usually only present at very low concentrations. With this new rule EPA is officially designating PFAS as Chemicals of Special Concern meaning the de minimis reporting exemptions for small quantities no longer applies.
