A Growing Trend: Pay Transparency Laws

A new trend has emerged across the country as state and local governments attempt to address pay equity in the workforce. A growing number of jurisdictions have passed or proposed pay disclosure legislation, also known as “pay transparency laws.”

Pay transparency laws are meant to reduce gender and racial pay gaps. State laws that prevent companies from asking job applicants about their salary history have also been helpful in closing the pay gap.
