SGIA Participates in Webinar on Wisconsin Air Rule Changes for Lithographic Presses

On October 1, 2019, SGIA staff participated in a webinar hosted by the Great Lakes Graphics Association (GLGA) that addressed recent changes to the air pollution control regulations for printing operations with lithographic printing presses. The webinar was the culmination of the work by the Printing Council, comprised of GLGA, SGIA, other printing trade associations and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, to simplify the air rules for lithographic printing operations.

The rule revisions, effective July 1, clarify and simplify the Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) rules for lithographic printing presses in Kenosha, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Washington, or Waukesha County. Prior to the changes, lithographic printers were required to meet two different RACT rules that were put in place in 1995 and in 2009 and the rules had different requirements.

The webinar focused on the rule changes, certification requirements, air permit requirements, air permitting reporting requirements, options and resources available for compliance assistance. The archive of the webinar can be viewed here. Attendees also received a one-page summary of the rule changes that has links to compliance assistance resources.
