Slitting/Sheeting Machine Operator

JOB SUMMARY

Sets up and operates slitting/sheeting machine to cut inspected stock rolls into pieces of specified widths.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Loads roll onto slitter/sheeter.
  • Selects, cleans, and installs spacers and cutting blades on machine shaft and turns setscrew to secure them into position according to die key or established measurements.
  • Threads sheeting through slitter/sheeter and verifies dimensions of cut to specifications.
  • Hones cutters to remove nicks.
  • Sets speed, rewind, and roll tension.
  • Observes slitting, sheeting, stacking, and rewinding operation and examines cut pieces.
  • Performs accurate face film cutting by maintaining critical cutting depth, pressure, and spacing.
  • Pulls waste from cut rolls.
  • Measures or compares slit/sheeted material with standard to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Stacks and weighs slit/sheeted material and records weight and color of load.
  • Maintains production records as required.
  • Moves completed goods to storage or to next process station.
  • Performs routine maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area, tools, and equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to management, outside resources, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Some independent travel may be required.
