Fork Lift Operator

JOB SUMMARY

Drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as a forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials. Responsible for raw material and finished goods handling, loading and unloading trucks, and distribution of material to warehouse or production lines by performing the following duties personally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck.
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Positions forks or other lifting device under loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transports load to designated area.
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Inventories materials received or shipped, and supplies production workers with materials as needed.
  • Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Loads or unloads materials onto or off of pallets, skids, or lifting device.
  • Loads and unloads truck, distributes and transfers materials into and out of warehouse.
  • Convey materials out of inventory as required by production orders.
  • Lubricates truck, recharges batteries, fills fuel tank, or replaces liquefied gas tank.
  • Performs basic maintenance on forklift as required.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED): or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
