Camera Technician

JOB SUMMARY

Converts mechanical art into line, halftone, or composite film elements by operating a process camera. Performs color separations, dropouts, chokes, spreads, screen tints, and other special camera effects. Uses proportional scales, determines proper screen angles to avoid moiré, and assures exact imposition of image. Processes film and other light sensitive material in the darkroom. Accomplishes above by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duplicates printed material on sensitized paper or film.
  • Sets camera controls to regulate exposure time according to line density of original and type of sensitized material used.
  • Activates camera to expose sensitized material, imprinting original on material.
  • Develops exposed material manually or by use of film processor, and mixes chemistries.
  • Examines developed print for defects such as broken lines, spots, blurs, and pin holes, touches up defects.
  • Enlarges prints as required.
  • Reprints original in sections and pieces sections together.
  • Operates process camera, processor, enlarger and other photographic equipment.
  • Performs color separations, dropouts, screen tints, and other special camera effects as required.
  • Performs routine maintenance in the darkroom as necessary.
  • Requisitions and inventories films and supplies.
  • Maintains records, darkroom film positives, negatives, and prints.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Carries out conduct and leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have good judgment of color design, and print quality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to management, outside resources, and other employees of the organization.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic chemicals, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Some independent travel may be required.
