Twice in the last few months we've been asked to offer our opinion on whether jobs that had four-color type were commercially acceptable. Misregistration becomes obvious on larger type and even if registration is within your internal standards (e.g., half a row of dots on sheetfed presses), the customer may find it objectionable. Four-color type should be caught during preflighting and the customer encouraged to switch to black type. If the customer insists on leaving the four-color type, then it should asked to acknowledge in writing that it has been made aware of the potential problems that can ensue.
