What are the best diagnostic tools in Adobe InDesign for identifying potential output-related problems?

While there are many tools and ways you can diagnose (and eventually repair) print output related problems, the most common ones are:

  • Preview Mode--gives a simplified view that hides any nonprinting objects (Select View>Screen Mode>Preview)
  • Overprint Preview--confirms that objects overprint and shows how inks will interact when they are printed on press (Select View>Overprint Preview)
  • Flattener Preview--highlights text and other vector content that may rasterize upon output, making the text more bold than it actually is (Select Window>Output>Flattener Preview)
  • Live Preflight--catches errors as you're designing your document, a great tool for creatives
