Eric Elfstrand Appointed New Midwestern Sales Manager of United Industries

Bentonville, AR (March 15, 2018) – United Industries, manufacturers of UltraBoard, is excited to announce the appointment of Eric Elfstrand as their new Midwestern United States Sales Manager. Elfstrand, who previously served as the Western United States Wide Format Manager for Veritiv Corporation, brings extensive sign industry experience to the UltraBoard sales team. In addition to Elfstrand’s role as Midwest Sales Manager for UltraBoard, his role will be influential within national accounts management, as well as UltraBoard’s product specification program. Elfstrand’s sign industry career began with the Pitman Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989. Beginning his career as a Sales Representative, Elfstrand quickly transitioned to a Sales Manager role, and was then appointed as Pitman’s Minneapolis Division Manager in 1998; overseeing a sales territory of six states. In 2010 Elfstrand transitioned his career to the Xpedx Corporation, assuming the role of Business Unit Manager within their graphics division. After joining the Xpedx corporation, Elfstrand soon accepted a promotion to Paper Sales Manager within Xpedx’s Kansas City office; relocating shortly thereafter with his wife Gina and their two children, Morgan and Logan, a sophomore and freshman at The University of Kansas. In 2014, Xpedx merged with the corporation Unisource to form Veritiv. Under Veritiv, Elfstrand was appointed to the position of Wide Format Manager for the Western United States. Federal Trade Commission Bans Non-Competition Agreements

On April 23, 2024, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) banned companies from using non-competition agreements – generally referred to as “noncompetes” in employment agreements, severance agreements, and other contracts. The purpose of noncompetes is to protect employers from being competitively disadvantaged by companies that hire their employees away from them and then benefit from that former employee’s inside knowledge of the company, which theoretically provides an unfair advantage to the hiring company.

New Department of Labor Independent Contractor Rule Now in Effect

A new Department of Labor (DOL) Independent Contractor (IC) Rule went into effect on March 11, 2024. The new IC Standard is now the guide to determine whether a worker is an employee of a company or is self-employed and therefore “independent” from the company. If the worker is independent, then the relationship with the company is governed by the contract for services and the worker does not have the benefits or protections that attach to being an employee.

The New Joint Employment Standard is On Hold Indefinitely

On Friday, March 8, 2024, a Texas federal court struck down the newest version of the Joint Employer Standard that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) revised in October 2023. The new standard was to go into effect on Monday, March 11, 2024. The Texas court’s ruling has blocked implementation of the new standard, which means the existing standard will continue to be in effect.
