OSHA Walkaround Rule Allows Third Parties, Including Union Reps, At Any Worksite

The Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) has finalized one its most controversial rules about who may accompany OSHA officials during worksite inspections. The revised rule has the potential to dramatically change the dynamics associated with OSHA inspections. Due to the significant resistance by the regulated community to the proposed rule, which included PRINTING United Alliance, there is a likelihood that the rule will be challenged in federal court and may put the effective date on hold pending the outcome of the lawsuits.

OSHA’s Penalties Continue Their Climb In 2024

At the beginning of 2023, the Biden Administration made additional changes to its enforcement policies with the stated intent to increase overall penalties for violations of its regulations. In essence, the instance-by-instance changes are designed to have each alleged violation itemized in a citation so that the maximum penalty for each one can be applied.

They involve the completion, posting and submission of certain separate, but related, recordkeeping forms. The two dates that are key are February 1 and March 2.
