Diversity of Sublimination Fabrics for Apparel Applications

More than a decade ago, Vince Cahill wrote an “An Overview of Sublimation Printing,” in the 2004 SGIA Journal. Today, the materials and applications have changed, but the basic understanding of the process is the same: “Sublimation refers to the physical process through which a material changes from a solid to a gas without first becoming a liquid. Sublimation printing involves dye that sublimates or sublimes, with the addition of heat, from a solid to a gas — penetrating into a sublimation dye-receptive material. Polyester is by far the most widely used sublimation dye receptor.”
