Dye Sublimation

Process Description

The basic dye sublimation process uses special heat-sensitive dyes to print graphics and text onto special transfer paper as a reversed image. The paper is then placed on a "sublimatable" item and both are placed into a heat press or roll calendar. Sublimation refers to changes from the solid to the gaseous state without becoming liquid. There is another dye sublimation method of direct printing onto textiles using a variant of the same dye sublimation ink. These materials are then heated after printing to fixate the inks.
