CPSC Holds Workshop Exploring Burden Reduction Strategies

On April 3rd, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will hold a one day workshop to explore potential ways to reduced third party testing costs associated with compliance with the phthalate and lead content limits as specified by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) .   Public Law 112-28 required the Agency to explore options that would reduce the third party testing costs while assuring compliance with the limits.  Staff had submitted a briefing package to the Commissioners and was directed to collect information to further explore the possibilities.  At the workshop, the three areas in which determinations can be made will be explored:  lead content, phthalate content, and the solubility of the eight elements listed in the Toy Standard.  SGIA will be attending  the workshop on behalf of the industry.
