The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) is pleased to announce the new TAGA Social Media Ambassador program! This program is a way to get students involved with TAGA by agreeing to donate their voice. They share our mission and their personal connection to our organization on all social media channels, so please be sure to follow along!

The TAGA Ambassadors come from across North America, representing Ryerson University, Clemson University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Ball State University, Western Michigan University, and Appalachian State University!

Victoria Sallese from Ryerson University is a natural leader with a high level of enthusiasm and passion for graphic communications!

What school do you attend, and what are you currently studying?

I'm in my third year at Ryerson University, majoring in Graphic Communications Management with a minor in Public Relations and a concentration in publishing.

What makes your major unique? What do you like most about your choice of major?

My major is unique because we approach all technological, creative, and business aspects relating to the printing industry. Graphic Communications Management (GCM) is built for students to tackle all areas of the industry so we become well-rounded managers stepping into the real world of the graphic arts. We're also very lucky to have very experienced faculty members that are connected to industry experts who we could potentially work alongside someday. Another great thing we are required to do at GCM is that we must complete a paid internship after our last semester of third year. This is a critical part of our studies, as we are able to gain real-life experience within our industry and test our knowledge and skills.

What do you like about being involved with TAGA and the student chapter?

Being involved with TAGA and my school's student chapter has been a great experience so far. I've noticed that I'm even more excited to get working in the industry after collaborating with so many insightful people. I enjoy being able to be a part of producing the chapter from concept to design and printing; it's amazing seeing it all come together.

When you aren't studying, in class, or working, what are you doing?

When I'm not busy with school, I'm usually spending time with my friends and family. I like movies or finding new shows on Netflix to watch, but I'll probably end up watching the Food Network when I can't decide what to watch.

What city are you currently living in? What do you like most about it (favorite spots)?

I currently live in downtown Toronto for school. I love the diversity here, so I really appreciate being able to try different types of restaurants every other week or so. Other than that, I'm usually at the Eaton Centre mall shopping around for things I don't need.

What would your future dream job entail?

My dream job would allow me to do a little bit of everything. I don't see myself doing the same thing over and over again; there would have to be room for movement and personal growth. I would love to work somewhere that I can be involved in most, if not all, aspects of the company. I enjoy learning and mastering new things all while practicing what I've studied here at GCM about the printing and graphic arts industries.

What do you envision yourself doing 5 years from now?

In 5 years, I hope to have been working my way up in a job that I really enjoy doing. I would like to have gained many more connections by then and have the opportunity to work with multiple companies and experience different types of job positions. I'd like to have a healthy career path started up for myself.

Do you have a favorite quote you live by, and if so, what is it?

I don't live by any quote in particular, but I was always told by my parents to try my best in everything I do. I always remind myself when I'm working on something complicated or something I don't understand as well as I would like: just do the best I can and work to the best of my abilities.
