Environment & Safety
Services and Staff
Welcome to the EHS Affairs Services and Staff Page. The EHS Affairs Department is staffed with a team of dedicated professionals who have extensive printing industry experience with a clear understanding of how regulations and sustainability apply to the industry. The combination of the two provides you with a very powerful resource that you can call on to get the answers, support, and resources necessary to solve problems or meet customer demands.
The goal of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Affairs Department is to provide comprehensive environmental, health, and safety information as it pertains to the graphic arts for Printing Industries of America members, vendors, and appropriate governmental agencies. Each year, the EHS Affairs team responds to over 1,500 individual inquiries by providing information and resources on sustainable green printing and establishing or maintaining an environmental, health, and safety compliance program in a cost-effective manner. In many instances, answers can be provided with a phone call or email, but if a specific service such as air permitting or employee training is required, the EHS staff is prepared to visit your facility to provide customized solutions.
Over the nearly forty-five years of combined industry experience, the EHS Affairs team has developed an extensive knowledge base of how the regulatory compliance requirements impact printers and what needs to be done to meet the obligations. The demand for sustainable green printing has resulted in concerns regarding “green washing” or unsubstantiated claims, and the EHS staff has helped its members sort through the confusion to identify those which are valid and make sense. The green revolution has also resulted in many opportunities to save money by cutting energy consumption, material use, recycling, and other similar actions.
In delivering cost-effective assistance, the EHS Affairs staff performs a variety of tasks including:
Inquiry Response — Give us a call or send an email with your questions for technical assistance on a variety of environmental and safety issues.
Member Listserv — We have a U.S. and Canadian email networking forum (or “listserve”) for management personnel of member firms with environmental, safety, and health responsibilities or oversight. Verification of membership and management responsibility may be required. To join email HRQuestions@printing.org with your name, title, company, address, and phone number.
Articles — We are always writing about EHS regulatory and other issues for our member publication, The Magazine. We will make articles available in the appropriate topic area with topical issues of The Magazine.
Compliance Assistance – Understanding your legal compliance obligations is only the first step. You need to put in place programs to meet and maintain continuous compliance, and our team can help you accomplish that goal. See our compliance assistance page for more information.
Green and Sustainability — Never before in the history of the printing industry has sustainability been so important for long-term success. Our Web page has information on how you can start or continue your journey and critical information on how to market that success to your customers. See our Green and Sustainability page for more information.
Consulting — Sometimes a phone call or email is not enough and you need personalized service to solve your challenges. See our consulting page for a complete description of our consulting services.
Training — Training is the cornerstone of your compliance and green program. See our training page for a complete description of our training services.
