Printing Industries of America today commended the decision of the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to reject the exigent postal rate increase requested by the United States Postal Service (USPS) this past July. Printing Industries of America member companies had actively sought to educate the PRC and Congress as to the disastrous impact an exigent rate hike could have on the mailing community as it struggles to regain its economic footing. 

The Digital Printing Council's newest white paper, titled QR Codes, A Guide for Printers, by Joseph Marin, explores the methods in which QR codes are used to integrate printed material more closely to the Internet.

 The Printing Industries-supported provision to extend bonus depreciation and increase small business expensing was signed into law today. Detailed information has been released about the six technologies recently selected to receive a 2010 InterTech™ Technology Award from Printing Industries of America.

 Meet Joe Deemer. He is the resident editor of Printing Industries of America. I sat down with him to discuss his first large-scale project -- editing the Glossary of Graphic Communication, fourth edition.

What’s your background with this project?
This was my first project when I joined the company in January 2007. It didn’t come out until the Summer of 2008, so it was fairly involved. 

 The Affordable Mail Alliance (AMA) has called on the Postal Regulatory Commission to dismiss the Postal Service's rate hike proposal filed on July 6, 2010. AMA's motion argues that the rate hike violates the cost controls Congress put into law to protect consumers and that the Postal Service needs to cut costs and modernize rather than raise rates an average of ten times the rate of inflation. Given the potential precedent-setting nature of the exigency rate case, Printing Industries of America has joined with the AMA to block this rate increase.
